ETrust Firewall is a version of ZA. My bet is that our settings or your
surfing/email habits let a nasty through, and once they're in it takes
heroic effort to get them out again.

Yeah, for the minor price difference, I think Pro is well worth it.

I use XP Pro and 98SE in a dual-boot. I remember about 10 months ago
when my XP Pro system was hacked. The XP Pro. side was broken into and
then data started to be erased. The strange thing was that the XP Pro
side was broken into but the hacker(s) were unable to break into the
98SE side of my system. I was using the XP firewall as well as the
complete EZ Armor on my XP Pro side and Zone Alarm Pro. on the 98SE
side. ZA Pro got many high-rated hits but it was not broken into.
Perhaps this just goes to show that Zone Alarm Pro. was a better
firewall or possibly my settings were not restricted enough in XP Pro.
In addition maybe it was because I understood 98SE much better than XP
Pro. but I still am grateful that my 98SE side which had my important
data on it held while the XP Pro. side which had nothing really
important on it was the one to crumble. Just my two cents for what it
is worth.

I'll be doing that install today or tomorrow, and I'll check, too.

Also going to see if I can determine the answer to that other question about
what 98 Gold Updates are subsumed into 98SE, but that's a trickier question.
There's a difference between incorporating an update and replacing the
mudule that needed updating in the first place, probably with an even better
result. Haven't let myself start thinking seriously about it yet, since I'm
sure it will make my already shaky mental faculties start trembling.

I am checking out the one PCR listed. But it looks like it is for XP.
I may have missed an update to Netframework 1.1.
So there may be 23 or if PCR is right ...24.

I don't think I ever installed that (911565). It may be that I do not have
WMP7 or 9 installed. I just went to update site and it did not show it. Only
"no updates needed at this time". I read the link you posted but I did not
see where it was for 98SE.
Thanks for the "Headsup" though.

I doubt it would be offered if you hadn't installed WMP. But didn't you list... WMP9-KB885492..? I'm certainly NOT XP, & the site offered it to me. It was also at the Catalog. What do you see at this Registry key...?...

I wonder whether Microsoft wanted to eliminate the 9x code since it
