Cannot Safely Remove USB Disk
Sometimes when I plug in a USB disk the Safely Remove Hardware icon appears
in the lower right corner and sometimes it does not. I've heard that you really shouldn't just pull the USB disks out; that you should use the Safely Remove Hardware. I've tried with a Memorex and SanDisk USB, both sometimes cause Safely Remove Hardware to run and sometimes don't. Thanks for any ideas. |

Cannot Safely Remove USB Disk
This is a continuing problem without a real solution, AFAIK - the best thing
to do is to exit all applications, wait a minute or two, and then pull the stick out. Yes, it's good to use the 'Safely remove' tool - but it should only be necessary if data is actively being used - which is why I say to exit and wait - which tends not to happen in a continuous stream, or when you stop using the data, but in blocks of time of vary short duration. Results of incorrect removal vary from no loss of data, to slight loss of data to (if you really manage to pull the stick at the wrong time!) total loss of data on the stick. It seems to be caused by so many things that it's impossible to find the root cause - and no-one is too fussed by Win ME any more HTH -- Noel Paton (MS-MVP 2002-2006, Windows) Nil Carborundum Illegitemi http://www.crashfixpc.com http://tinyurl.com/6oztj Please read http://dts-l.org/goodpost.htm on how to post messages to NG's "Christina" wrote in message ... Thank you very much. I did look and look before I posted (I try to be a good
little poster) and it's good to know I didn't miss something obvious! And yes, I suppose I'm going to be "forced" to move on to bigger and "badder" versions of the OS! ;-) "Noel Paton" wrote: This is a continuing problem without a real solution, AFAIK - the best thing to do is to exit all applications, wait a minute or two, and then pull the stick out. I have success in ; right click on the drive and select "eject" from the drop down menu. (Stops the "disc" being active/read, and then pull the device out) |
