error starting program message 'A required .DLL file

this "error starting program message 'A required .DLL file
DNSAPI.DLL, was not found'" keeps popping up on my windows
screen with the "OK" box which must be clicked and then
disappears. the computer was already running and programs
were already working before this error message showed up
out of the blue. this started a few days ago. I can't
figure out what caused it to happen. I can't figure out
where to go look for the file and find it; or determine
how it got lost. Once I locate it, how do I replace it?
And what program is not starting anyway that this .DLL
file is missing from that isn't starting to begin with I
wonder? What do I do about that? A knowledgable reply
would be greatly appreciated and graciously, "I thank you"
