Here you have a lot of smart people. I use Office Xp.Maybe somebody can
help. I am trying to paste a picture in of the boxes in a

Which one, of the many? How about the MS Word newsgroups? There is even
one for microsoft.word.tables.

1. Is there anything - space, return - in the cell before you do the
paste? (Turn on the invisibles - the backwards P button - to see.)

2. Is the orientation in that cell different to the rest? (There are 9
possible orientations.)

Oops, I meant alignments (justifications) - there are three possible
orientations too, though I doubt you'd have changed _that_ accidentally,
and I'm not sure how it'd affect a pasted picture anyway.

There's a button in the table toolbar, if you have it activated, with a
drop-down arrow next to it; the button shows the last alignment
selected, and will have a square round it if you click on a cell that
has the selected alignment. If you click the drop-down arrow, it'll show
the nine possible alignments (top left, top middle, top right, etc.),
with a square round the one for the currently-selected cell.

For orientation, look under (IIRR) Format, text direction. If it's
either of the vertical ones, too, the lines in the icon for the
alignment run vertically, too.

I may not be using the terms alignment/orientation correctly.
