no pictures on web sites
Since about a year ago, I cannot see pictures on the
Internet. All web sites look like text. Most pictures and buttons, links etc, are replaced by a box with a little red cross inside each box. Right click, show picture - shows the picture or button. Many internet sites or links also show messages at bottom of screen such as "done with errors" and the web link doesn't open (or there's nothing inside the new window). Drop down selection menus (e.g. on airflight forms for destination), don't drop down etc. Don't know why this has happened. I have W98 (I think the first edition, bought ~Oct 98), PII. IE 5.00 with Outlook Express. Yes - I have went into the Internet Options - Tools and made sure the "show pictures" in the media is checked - it is. I've even toggled it. So I don't think that is the problem. I also have a "windows is shutting down" hanging problem when I shut down. I have to turn off the PC manually. Very recently, after rerunning windows setup.exe, hoping to overwrite and renew any altered files (took about 45 mins), my Sophos antivirus system came up with a popup window saying it had found Bugbear-A. Why Sophos didn't pick it up prior to re-running setup.exe, I don't know. However, I have disinfected the PC from Bugbear-A. Whether this was related or not to the lack of internet pics, I don't know. It hasn't solved the problem, so I think Bugbear-A may have been an unrelated issue. I am considering getting IE6 to see if that will help. But, why did it go wrong after working since 1998. Are there any checks I can do to see what has caused the lack of pictures? The problem is that when I go to web sites for help - with the lack of pictures - it becomes difficult getting help. I'm new to this newsgroup/forum, my first posting. If you wish to reply, you can reply direct and use my e-mail address . Hope someone can help me. Thanks Derek |
