I believe it to be (800) 936-5700. Mention the article, problem and =
hotfix only and you should not be charged. To be sure ask the question " =
This is free, correct?".

Hi Brian,
I thought I would describe to you my experience. Well, I first called
Microsoft all ready with the hotfix # and thought well this will be a piece
of cake . . . not really . . . The customer support tech. said I needed to
call creative and have them make a conference call between all three of us.
I called creative tech. support and talked to a nice lady who said they
don't usually do that but she gave me her first name and badge #. Back to
calling Microsoft and this time I got a more reasonable customer support
tech. who connected me with a support tech. named Danny (LOL) and he emailed
me the hotfix with the warning that it is not regression tested and I should
back up my system before installing it just in case. Whew!, I have the
patch but I think I just regained my sanity . . . at least some of it.
Anyway, I thought you would like to hear this story along with everyone else
who visits this newsgroup and my most recent Microsoft experience(s). bg

It was a Microsoft hotfix for 98SE for Non-PCM audio and the sound card
involved was a Sound Blaster Audigy and the readme in the installation
routine of the software setup of the Creative product said that I needed to
contact Microsoft for their hotfix. I hope this is clear enough. :

That is why I have often said: When a toll-free number is provided,
don't give up after the first call. Eventually, you'll hit someone who
isn't as ornery as the rest, even at MS. Also, don't mention a thing,
except "hotfix"; otherwise, there will be a charge.

Thanks or Good Luck,
There may be humor in this post, and,
Naturally, you will not sue,
should things get worse after this,
