problem with laptop win 98

Default problem with laptop win 98

I am writing this for my sister, her step daughter came to visit her for a
week was on the laptop alot....that said mty sister say's that now she cannot
do anything with her computer there is just the curser blinking on a black
screen!
What is her first step in trying to resolve this problem?

The only thing I know is that her laptop is a Toshiba and the system unit#
33OCDT-4.0 and she was running Windows 98

Please help!

More information would help. When does the blank screen come up? Are
there any error messages? Can she boot to Safe Mode or Dos?

Plug a monitor into the external monitor port and see if anything appears on
that.

Start the laptop, tap the F8 key repeatedly until the startup menu =
appears
and select "Command Prompt". Then type "scanreg /restore", press
"Enter" and restore a previous good registry.
