Default Music play to fast .

Hello , everyone ,

I installed on a old Compaq deskpro pc , pentium 3 , with a I815 chipset
and an intel 82801AA controller hub and a AC97 audio adapter with windows ME
version on it . When I play music, it goes too fast (+/- 2 times) .
Before there was Win 98Se intalled on the pc and there was not any problem .
I know that I need a driver to resolve the problem , but after 3 days of
searching I can't find any good one .

Hoping someone here have a good one, ore have a good link .
Many thanks in advance , Danny

Do you mean music from an audio CD or do you mean any music from whatever
source (.mp3, .wav, .mid, etc.)?

If from an audio CD, then what application are you using to play it? (Media
Player or third party utility?

Which still brings me around to the second part of my question - What
application are you using to play the music?

BTW - does the WinMe startup 'fanfare' also play faster than the normal
speed?

OK, you've found what you believe to be a 'good' driver BUT what application
are you using to play your music?

Music from any source .(cd , mp3 , ....)

Also, when you say that .mp3's play at the wrong speed, do you mean .mp3
files on your hard drive as well as on CD-ROM

Did you try .mid and .wav files?
You'll find some examples of each in the Windows\Media folder

I'm trying to get you to eliminate your CD-ROM as a possible cause, but I
suspect that your choice of driver may not be the correct one. Do you still
have a copy of the original driver supplied with you Win98 SE installation?

Why did you choose the SP21180 driver? You *may* have to substitute the
integral AC97 unit with a new PCI sound card.

However, I concur with Mart in urging you to install a modern, inexpensive
sound card and disable the Intel onboard audio service.

Hi Jack, that's a good link to Intel - well Googled! g

IIRC, many of the AC97 drivers were 'motherboard specific' and wouldn't
necessarily work correctly across boards (chipsets?) even of the same
manufacturer.

BTW - Best wishes to you too, Jack (as per your message elsewhere on the
Group) and to all the other WinMe 'regulars' of course.

Mart
