Default About Avast!

I would like to know if Avast! takes care of Trojans in addition to Virus.
Also when it tells you that there is an update, does it automatically
download it or do you have to go up and download it?
I am still trying to work with the small monitor, which is a 15" AOC
which is dated August 11, 1996. I have it adjusted so I can see it clearly,
but the stuff is smaller than U am used to. I am used to a 17" Monitor. I
keep a fan on it and I do not shut it down when I turn off the computer.

Right-click the Avast blue ball icon in the system tray next to the clock, and click
Program Settings on the menu that appears.

In Program settings, click "Update (Basic)"
Select the behaviour you want and click OK.

I use Automatic for Virus Database, and Ask for Program updates.

Hi again, your monitor should probably be reset (if it isn't) to 800x600 for
a 15 inch, or else everything will appear way too small.

To do so, right click on the desktop somewhere that there is no icon, goto
Properties goto Settings goto the slider that says Screen Area and slide
it to 800x600 if it isn't.
Also, if you haven't already setup for the new monitor: check to make sure
that you are using the correct monitor by then going to Advanced (on the
same screen) goto Monitor see if your monitor is shown there, if not click
Change, click NEXT, click Display list in a specific location, click Show
all hardware, scroll til you find your AOC monitor highlight it, click Next.
You may have to "fiddle" with the fonts again, if you changed to larger
fonts.

Hope this helps, or maybe you already did this.

Glee has helped with the Avast already.

Hi MEB,
It was not because the monitor was out of adjustment, everything was
correct. I was using a SMALLER monitor than I was used to also it has the
rounded screen and was harder to see what I was trying to see.
I was asking about the IE file. I was not asking about the monitor
settings. I got the new monitor today and it is a lot better to work with.
I still need an answer to my question about the IE Temporary file
problem. It still is not solved. The answer that Glee gave did not work!

Hi Glee,
Maybe you have not been reading the other posts. I have been waiting for
a new monitor. This monitor was one I borrowed to use so I could use my
computer. I finally received the new monitor today, a replacement for the
one I only had 11 months and was guaranteed for 3 years.

Oh I see now, there were two separate postings, Gary has you again (still)
in the other post.

As for trogans and viruses (if that was part of your question), yes Avast
will, but only if it has it in it's data base or it is located by heuristic
analysis. Not to worry though, the protection is adequate, and between
anti-vir, Spyware progs (run regularly), and a firewall, your relatively
safe, as long as your not going to questionable sites. If you do the auto
updates as Glee recommended, your probably as safe as the rest of us.
I'm sure Gary advised how to setup properly with that CD.

So you got a new 19 inch then(?),, yea.. much easier on our eyes. Have fun.

Hi MEB,
It is a 17" but it is the same size as the one that died on me. I could
have gottten a 19" for $15 more but it would have been too large for the
desk because the desk is small and the Monitor is a CRT.

Well, 17 is definately better than 15. At least you can 1024x768 out of it.
