However, regarding your 'New' Artec 56x CD-ROM, that should certainly be
adequate for CD's - Have you tried it yet?

Could you tell me the difference in, CD-ROM & DVD-ROM,
are they not basically the same,

No. A CD-ROM will not play DVD's but a DVD-ROM will play CD's & DVD's.

CD-ROM still plays "DVD'S" when loaded.

Then it must have been a DVD-ROM - and you probably have DVD software
installed (unless you are just playing a data DVD, e.g. Magazine cover
disk). Does it not say DVD on the front panel of the unit?

Well went to PC World and picked up a CD-ROM, (£10.29) for nothing,
Just a query, the guy in the store tried to flog me the DVD-ROM?

Well, if your previous, faulty "CD-ROM" was in fact a DVD-ROM, then you
*may* wish to consider his offer. But if you have managed to 'procure' the
Acer on 'Sale or Return' then try it, to confirm the faulty CD-ROM and then
return it for a DVD-ROM - if that's what you would prefer.

Ahh, Ehh!! Seamey! (Pronounced "R A" - in a scouse accent of disappointed
surprise)

I thought that by now - armed with the fitting instructions and a
screwdriver - you would have been brave enough to tackle it yourself bg
There's an army of us out here just waiting to cheer you through the
exercise.

However - to be fair - if you are not happy doing it yourself, then you are
quite right to go to a 'teckie'

Good luck on Wednesday - and come back to this tread to let us know how you
got on.

when we fee the urge of pityVBEG - & RVVVVVVF

It's not that we don't have the "good stuff" but rather we have discerning
palates and tend to use what you call as "good stuff" as drain cleaner.

Hiya Mart,

Change of plans, went back to PC-WORLD today and returned CD-ROM with the
intention of of picking up DVD-ROM,guess what,ALL out of stock for
14days,would you believe it.

Came home in disgust, got on-line to "Dabs.com" and ordered one, should do the
job.

"LG GDR 8163B-Internal-16x-5.25"-IDE= Read Speed=52x(CD)/16X(DVD)"

As for fitting it????? when it arrives "I WILL" read the instructions and if
feeling confident may give it a bash.(Saves paying a Teckie I suppose) I'm a
"Plumber" not a Wizz like yourselves.

Will get back to you if up and running,

Cheers,

Seamey.
