Odd that the wininit mechanism is being used to remove an entry from the
Start Menu. Even odder is that mcafee.com is in the Start Menu rather than
within the Program Files structure.

That was my concern - and it looks as if it may have been justified if
CWShredder is finding something....

It's time to bring out the big guns, I think....look here for the

Noel,

I have posted my Hijack this loge to the Aumha form. Will
keep you up on the reply when I get one. I am wondering
still why this would happen when I tried to install the
critical updates?
I also regularly run 3 different anti-spyware regulary run
my antivirus program, have a firewall on my router, and
use Zone Alarm.
Yes CWShredder did seem to find something the first time
but then was coming up clean. Nothing else found any
bugs. (still waiting for AumHa results)
Could my computer actually just be caught in a "soup" like
Joan first suggested? Perhalps it would be best to answer
this after I get the results, but I do wonder?

I've responded there with my comments, and a little more background data for
the guys - not a lot I could see was wrong.

What type on Internet connection are you using? - does it need UPNP
(Universal PlugnPlay)?? - don't confuse this with the ordinary PlugnPray we
all use - it's normally only for external devices such as web-enabled
televisions, fridges, etc.., and perhaps routers.

Noel,

Not being 100% sure what the difference is between UPNP
and ordinary PlugnPlay are I thought it best to let you
know what hardware I am using etc.
My internet connection is ADSL provided by AOL (UK). I
believe they use BT (British Telecom)
My router is a Linkisys Wireless-G ADSL Gateway. Model
number WAG54G (UK)
I use a Linksys Wireless-G Notebook Adapter. Model number
WPC54G.
Linksys is a division of Cisco Systems.

I noticed your comments on AumaHa,

I am not sure what KonTiki networks is?
I will have a look at Spybot.
When I used CWShredder the first pass, it did not actually
say what the problem was just that I have a may have
something (sorry can remember exactly what it said) in the
memory

I was able to get rid of the p2esocks_1014.dll problem by
checking O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [Instant Access] rundll32.exe
p2esocks_1014.dll,InstantAccess on the HijackThis log and
deleting it. (found this idea in another msg board).
WinME service pack 6 will still not load so there has to
be more problems somewhere.

Can be a while, as people tend to research their answers

Model

number
WPC54G.
Linksys is a division of Cisco Systems.

I noticed your comments on AumaHa,

I am not sure what KonTiki networks is?
I will have a look at Spybot.
When I used CWShredder the first pass, it did not

actually
say what the problem was just that I have a may have
something (sorry can remember exactly what it said) in

the
memory

-----Original Message-----
I've responded there with my comments, and a little

more
background data for
the guys - not a lot I could see was wrong.

What type on Internet connection are you using? - does

it
need UPNP
(Universal PlugnPlay)?? - don't confuse this with the
ordinary PlugnPray we
all use - it's normally only for external devices such
as web-enabled
televisions, fridges, etc.., and perhaps routers.

Noel,

I have posted my Hijack this loge to the Aumha form.
Will
keep you up on the reply when I get one. I am
wondering
still why this would happen when I tried to install

the
critical updates?
I also regularly run 3 different anti-spyware

regulary
run
my antivirus program, have a firewall on my router,

and
use Zone Alarm.
Yes CWShredder did seem to find something the first
time
but then was coming up clean. Nothing else found

any
bugs. (still waiting for AumHa results)
Could my computer actually just be caught in

a "soup"
like
Joan first suggested? Perhalps it would be best to
answer
this after I get the results, but I do wonder?
-----Original Message-----
That was my concern - and it looks as if it may have
been

CWShredder is finding something....

randomly removing components is NOT a good idea!

p2esocks_1014 however does appear to be associated with some form of spyware
(although I've been unable to find out exactly what - ah, gotcha! - it's a
porn diallerg)

Have you tried installing the update while in Safe Mode?
Try a SCANREG /FIX first, then reboot (again) to Safe Mode and install
from there
