Hi mm et all,,,
I told mm a few days ago that when visiting www's the jpeg's or whatevers
werent showing, then a buddy dropped by for a few mins and ticked/un-ticked
something in IE advanced dialogue box and voila they showed again after
reboot..........
Since then I still have the same prob and it also gives a page error when
visiting sites to the extent that I cannot download things.
Latest was a visit to 'geeks' site to get a security ute and download was
disallowed due to page error.
Anyone know what the heck it is that is supposed to be ticked or un-ticked
that enables this scenario, and what I can do to stop it happening again?
Also, in the last week I have d/loaded all patches for 98 from micro plus
installed many free proggies like ....spybot, adaware, shredder and etc.
(now that I'm on that topic too, I still get one that just seems to slip in
under the radar that spybot picks up but doesnt nuke on its way in, there
must be something else I need to d/l that stops these type of things even
entering into my system.......am running norton too.)

as usual.............tia

jeff

Hi Jeff,

Empty the Temporary Internet Files folder again.
(Control PanelInternet Options; on the General tab under Temporary
Internet Files, click the "Delete Files" button; then tick the "delete
off-line content" option also.)

If that clears up the problem, then you need to increase the amount of
storage for the TIF folder. There should be a slider to adjust the size,
click the settings button(same area as "delete files") if it's not
visible. Don't go crazy with the setting, you don't want to turn your PC
into a proxy server.

You can go to the advanced tab in Internet Options and scroll down to
security and check the box next to "Empty Temporary Internet Files
folder when browser is closed".

Spybot and Ad-Aware do not block the crap, they remove them. Spyware
Blaster does block many of them before they get on your system.

What file keeps getting through to your PC? Post back with the one
Spybot keeps finding.

Jeff,

I just noticed that you are using your real email address(I think) when
posting to the newsgroup. All newsgroups are searched by spammers, etc.
looking to harvest email addresses. You need to alter your address so
that it is unusable to them; adding NOSPAM or something like in your
address will do. You can also just make one up, just be certain it
couldn't possibly be some other poor soul's address.

You will probably start getting a lot of spam and some with viruses.
Since this is a MS newsgroup, many of those may claim to be from
Microsoft with "important updates".

You may find it best to contact your Internet provider about changing
your email address.

Alan,
I'm a newcomer and as you obviously know the excitement of in finding stuff
sometimes over-rides logical/rational.
In regard to the post:.......
When I 'visit' www's I am unable to view/see the
"advertising/jpgs/bmp's/gif's/pictures/" & etc.
Recently I was trying to d/load a proggy/ute from micro site & also geek
site & was unable to do so due to a message saying "page error".
I put this down to the fact that none of the sites images were displaying.
So, all that aside, a few nights ago I had a similar problem and a friend
dropped by and clicked on "IE,. then options, then 'advanced' and either put
a tick some boxes or took out a tick or two...................but his motive
was to fix the prob I was having.
Having said that, Alan, things seemed to work fine for the next couple of
times I logged onto the net, but at the moment things have reverted back to
the non-display problem I mentioned.
Also, in the last 7 days or so, I have been trying to exercise caution by
visiting these types of n/g's and following the advice given by d/loading
proggies & utes to minimise computer problems.
As such, I have all sorts of spyware types of things running on my computer,
including: "spyware, adaware, shredder, & etc".
I also have my stand alone "norton".
Now, back to the gist of this post...........
I now cannot see http.www's as they should be seen and I guess I'm asking if
anyone knows why.

Sorry for any mis-understandings alan.
Advice is always welcome and checked out.
