Default Scandisk: filename too long

Whenever I restart my computer after an improper shutdown scandisk runs, and
after getting about 30% through informs me that there is a filename that is
too long and tells me to run the Windows version of Scandisk to correct the
problem. Well, the Windows version of Scandisk doesn't find any problem.
But, I do want to fix the problem, so how do I tell what file is bothering
the DOS version of Scandisk?

You may need to adjust settings to see them in the Windows version...

(a) "START button, Run, Scandisk".
(b) Uncheck "Automatically fix errors".
(c) Click the "Advanced" button.
(d) Check "Report MS-DOS Mode name length errors".

Now, you should get a requestor when a name length error occurs. I get
two, both are Macromedia Flash Player related. I have chosen not to fix
them yet, until I get a chance to investigate whether they are mentioned
in the Registry with the long name.

Thanks or Good Luck,
There may be humor in this post, and,
Naturally, you will not sue,
should things get worse after this,

I can see now the issue is that the path from the root directory for any
folder can be no more than 63 characters in MS-DOS. I conclude that is just
too bad for MS-DOS and I am going to ignore the issue
from now on.
