Default win98 and xp problem + not logging in to win98 machine

I have 2 windows 98 machines and 2 xp pro machines

the xp pro machines will see and connect to the 98 machines.

The 98 machines locate the xp computers but when you try to connect to it
tells me "(machine name) not accessible. This device does not exist on the
network."

but it show up in the network neighborhood and searching for the computers.

I have even created limited use logins for the user.
any idea

Also: My win98 machine will not let me login. I have to logout to acutally
login any Ideas??

Delete the autologon value in the registry under

HKLM/software/microsoft/windows/currentversion/network/realmodenet

It could also depend on your file systems. Windows 98 uses
Fat or Fat32 while Windows XP defaults to NTFS (though you
can change that during installation of XP). Generally
speaking, FAT32 cannot see NTFS drives/files and vice
versa. Of course, looking at the post again it seems all
computers are using FAT32 so you can access the files back
and forth. In these cases it's best to disable auto-logon.

Wrong. NTFS and FAT don't matter in networking.

If you have firewall software on the XP computers, disable or remove it.
