2 HDs with WinME
Ok, what I want to do is have 2 copies of WinME on two different HDs
on two different ribbon cables (each made the master). I want to be able to boot each one, but don't know how to use Ranish Partition Manager to be able do this. I heard that I can buy a hardware switch which controls the cable switch option, but then I also think I can do this with GRUB and hide the Primary partion of the WimME which I don't want. Does anyone have more detailed info on how to do this? |

Many of the newer BIOSes allow you to change the boot drive.

I decided to use BootItNG.
I was able to boot from the first HD with ME just fine. When I selected the second HD ME, startup failed with an error in GDI.EXE When I am booting from the second HD, I think I somehow have to hide the first installation of ME? I have read the manuals, but I must admit that some of this stuff is new and confusing. |

I was able to use Ranish PM to restore a previously info, so I am
getting up to speed with it. I have read the docs, but don't know if it will do what I want. |

Whatever partition manager you use, Win ME MUST get the impression that it's
booting from drive C: - that means that you have to hide any partition that may take precedence in the order. -- Noel Paton (MS-MVP 2002-2005, Windows) Nil Carborundum Illegitemi http://www.btinternet.com/~winnoel/millsrpch.htm http://tinyurl.com/6oztj Please read http://dts-l.org/goodpost.htm on how to post messages to NG's "deodiaus" wrote in message ... I had another problem in that I had EZ-BIOS loaded. I found someone
else talking about how this mess up his computer, so I removed that using fdisk /mbr Now I have 2 HD, each with WinME, but still get this problem with a fatal error in GDI.exe now when I chose to load with the first HD. |

I think the problem might be due to the auto setting of the HDs (which
drive is C:, d and the OS not finding the right OS because it is no longer in the place where it once was. Ironically now, the second WinME loads fine if I swap the boot order in the BIOS? It seems as if I have to write some DOS program which would reset the bios on the boot (off a floppy). Does anyone know where I could find such a beast? |

I tried changing the boot.ini to reference d:
as well as autoexec.bat to refer to the newly mapped driver letter. |
