Default Newest Browser (Firefox, Opera, ?) Usable in Win98

Hi,

I am using Firefox V2.0.0.17 browser.

Recently, I went to a web site that required Firefox 3.0 (& up) or IE 8.0
before I can download from that site. YouTube complains about
my old browser. Firefox 3.* is not usable in Win98 computers.

Do you know of a browser I can use in a Win98 computer that
will "work" at these web sites?

Thank You in Advance, John

PS, Remove "ine" from my email address

The last version of Firefox series 2 is 2.0.0.20, and I would recommend
that you obtain at least that version if nothing else. If you can't
find it, I can post a download link.

The easy solution is to get a firefox add-on called "User Agent
Switcher".

When you surf the web, your browser reports it's version to the
web-server that you're trying to contact or access. Technically, what
is being reported is your User-Agent (which is a simple string of text).

If you do a search on "User agent" you'll learn all about it.

Try this:

http://whatsmyuseragent.com/

The Agent Switcher lets you enter anything you want in place of what you
have now. There are lists of User agents available on the web. You can
even make the web-site you're trying to access think that you have an
iPhone instead of a computer running win-98.

So if you install the User-Agent switcher add-on, set your user agent to
this:

Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Win98; en-US; rv:1.8.1.20) Gecko/20081217
Firefox/3.0.0.20

I just made up the "Firefox/3.0.0.20" part. That's enough for most
web-sites to stop hassling you about your browser.

Ed mentioned KernelEx. That is a kernel-level API hook that's been
developed by some win-98 enthusiasts that give win-98 some functions
that are found in win-2k/XP but which are necessary to run some newer
software (like firefox 3.x). That is a more sophisticated solution (but
not necessarily complicated to impliment) and you will gain quite a bit
of added capability if you install it (like being able to install flash
version 10).
