Solved: Windows 98 Version Detection after MS Security Update CD
I recently had a situation in which a program that did Windows version
detection was failing because using the Windows Security Update CD (distributed by Microsoft in February 2004) changed the registry key HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\Curr entVersion\SubVersionNumber from " A " (note leading and trailing space) to "B". The latter value wasn't in the program's hardcoded list of valid versions, so the program would exit with an error. Changing the value back to " A " solved the problem. Thanks to everyone for their suggestions and information. - Alan |
