retrieve lost files
My husband turned on his computer, got a message to reinstall Windows which
he did. He lost Outlook contacts and Internet Explorer favorites which he didn't have backed up. These files contain info from work. Is there any way to retrieve these? -- Fran |

How was Win Me reinstalled? If from an OEM recovery CD then in all
likelihood it has restored the system to the state it was in when first delivered meaning that all user files will have been deleted, however if Win Me was reinstalled over itself using a Win Me CD, then it is possible that the various deleted files can be recovered. Out of curiosity, may I ask if your husband remembers and details of the message he saw that said he should reinstall Windows? Although probably too late to help now in many such cases the system can be recovered without having to reinstall the operating system. -- Mike Maltby Fran wrote: My husband turned on his computer, got a message to reinstall Windows which he did. Mike, ME was reinstalled via the OEM recovery discs. A subsequent review of
existing data do not show the missing info. Thanks for your help. Next time we'll try an alternative recovery method. Lou -- Fran "Mike M" wrote: How was Win Me reinstalled? Lou,
Sorry not to have been able to help. If you have problems in future try posting here as hopefully someone will be able to help sort out the problem. One quick point however. Having reinstalled Win Me from the OEM recovery media it is essential that the various critical patches on the Windows Update site be installed especially the 290700 patch for system restore without which system restore won't be available to help get you out of any difficulties you might encounter in the future.
