Default NEW - Irfanview 3.97

Hi All.....

If you use Irfanview for all the many things that it does, there was a new
release on April 22.....version 3.97.

Don't forget to download the plugins as well. For a FREE program, it is
just super!! Playing an mp3 at the moment....something else he has that I
discovered a while ago. Uses the old Windows Media player and just plays
one song at a time.....but hey, it's free, grin.

Also opens oddball extensions, allows you to edit photos, view video files,
and so on. This man is a gem!! I use it often to crop photos rather than
the more complicated programs I have on here.

Cheers.....Heather

Heather:

Is it advisable to first uninstall the older version?
Or can you go right over the top of it?

Harry.

I prefer to remove the old programs and put the new ones in as a fresh
install.....but mind you, I download them unopened to a special folder and
have all of the old versions to go back to if I get a glitch with the new
one.

I believe you can install over the previous one tho. Don't forget to
download the Plugins.....

I never bother, Harry, though in many cases one could argue that it's an
advisable precaution. The thing about Irfanview is it doesn't replace the
old Start Menu shortcuts, so you get ever more and more (and there are too
many to begin with!). But it's easy enough to just delete the superfluous
ones. I think Irfanview is a very benign piece of software and if not
uninstalling a previous version results in problems it'll be in it's
exposing a pre-existing issue rather than a problem with the Irfanview code.

Shame about the eBay stuff in it these days, as it mars what is otherwise
one of the very finest pieces of freeware ever written (imnho).

Shane:

That's really good, detailed information to have.
I managed to get the installation, including plugins, without any problems.
Thanks.

Harry.

Me too use IrfanView and it is superb. But I also use XNView
because it works both on Windows and Linux (and many other OSes)
