rj45 printer, how do you connect to w98?
I an trying to connect an hp tn4040 (may not be the
correct model number) to a w98 system via an rj45 connection. The printer has an HP JetDirect card in it with an rj45 connection. I am going to put the printer and the w98 system on a router (so I can add other systems later). How do I connect the printer to the system (software wise) so that the w98 can print to the printer? Do I hard code an IP address in the printer/router and then tell the w98 system the ip address?? I did not find anything in the knowledge base on this. (I have connected the printer to a router and both devices recognize each other--light tx/rc lights.) Thanks in advance Mike Shanahan |

Check your HP printer driver CD for the "Add Network Printer Wizard" or
"TCP/IP Printer Wizard" (depending on the age of the printer and CD). -- Richard G. Harper [MVP Win9x] * PLEASE post all messages and replies in the newsgroups * for the benefit of all. I have figured this out, for an rj45 connected printer you
need to: 1-start 2-printer 3-add a printer 4-local printer (uncheck AUTO DETECT...) 5-check "Create a new port" 6-in the dropdown select "Standard TCP/IP Port" 7-at ADD PORT, you type in the printer ip address (the hp printer can be configured for the ip address I will use 192.168.0.66 or something not common.) .... I did this on a w2k system, but I should be able to transfer it to a w98. I do not have a working w98 in my lab, so I will have to go to the customer's shop to finished working this (you also need the printer connected to go any further. mike shanahan -----Original Message----- I an trying to connect an hp tn4040 (may not be the correct model number) to a w98 system via an rj45 connection. Yes, for Windows 98 you need the additional HP software I mentioned in my
first reply. Windows 98 does not support TCP/IP printing so you need to use the HP software to make the connection. -- Richard G.
