Default IE6 kernell32.dll error, help please!!!!!!!!!!!

I have a Toshiba laptop with Win ME, when I downloaded the
security patches to IE6, my IE6 went unstable. IE6 loads
normally at boot, but randomly shuts down with 'IE has
caused an error in kernel32.dll' and asks for restart. I
may even haveb to close that message several times. I
have done all the scanning with all the adware and syware
from this newsgroup, but this error does not go away.
Interestingly, when I use IE6 to browse Microsoft for
ideas, it does not seem to cause the kernel error. I have
even cleaned the registry with no success.I have
even loaded Win XP pro and the problem persists. I hope a
MS-MVP can give some added advice. Yes I do ahve an ATI
vid card, but no new updates available. I also have a
Lucent software Winmodem. This is a lapto so some heat
buildup is unavoidable
