IPHLAPAPI.DLL since installing Netscape v7
Hi all -
I have just started getting the IPHLAPAPI.DLL error "The IPHLPAPI.DLL file cannot start. Check the file to determine the problem" after my PC has been in sleep mode for a while with a window (one or more) open. It does not happen if a window is not open. I have never had this problem before. But, I've not had this version of Netscape before either. I did not deliberately install AOL, nor do I use i or want it, but, I think it got loaded when I installed Netscape v7. I am using the Composer part of the NS v7 for creating webpages for my website. But, I would never install AOL. I checked the Add/Remove and the AOL is not there. It can happen when any windows are open, but, usually when the OE windows are open. The uninstall shows in the Search to be in the Windows\Application, but, there is no such folder in my Windows folder that I can find, only Application Data, and the Windows\Application does not have Data after it. When I doubleclick on it, nothing happens. So, guess that is not a good file. AOL is listed as AOD in Program Files. I have tried a SR to a point prior to the problem, but, my RP's don't go back that far. I want to get rid of the AOL without getting rid of NS v7 too, if possible. I'd really appreciate any suggestions or information on how to do this. Best regards, Jan |

AOL does NOT install as part of Netscape - although AOL do/did own it. (AOL
actually use IE as its interface to the Web - and AFAIK, it has abandoned Netscape development) If AOL is installed, by default it will go into the folder C:\Program Files\AOL -- Noel Paton (MS-MVP 2002-2004, Win9x) Nil Carborundum Illegitemi http://www.btinternet.com/~winnoel/millsrpch.htm Please read http://dts-l.org/goodpost.htm on how to post messages to NG's or http://www.microsoft.com/presspass/f.../Mar27pmvp.asp "Jan Il" wrote in message ... IPHLAPAPI.DLL since installing Netscape v7
Hi Noel -
AOL does NOT install as part of Netscape - although AOL do/did own it. (AOL actually use IE as its interface to the Web - and AFAIK, it has abandoned Netscape development) If AOL is installed, by default it will go into the folder C:\Program Files\AOL But...but...there is no AOL folder on the Program Files folder, just the AOD, and it has the AOL folders and files in it. There is the Aol/Aod file, and the NAOL file, and when I go to the AOD\ShareDir it only has the Netscape file in it. There is also the AIM and all that nonsense as part of the Netscape set up. When I started to set up NS it prompted me to set up the AIM and such and I didn't want to. I didn't think much about it at the moment, but, then when the error started coming up, and I knew it usually had to do with AOL, I started looking and bingo, there it is. But, I did *not* voluntarily install AOL. The way it shows is that it is part of Netscape. This is the NS free version, and the AOL says it is the Free AOL & Unlimited Internet, v1.0.0.62. They both showed up at the same time. Since both programs are free versions, perhaps they packaged the two together. I did not have AOL before I got NS, and I would not have ever installed it. Being downloaded with Netscape is the only way I can see that it got there, unless it installed itself. But, if it was a separate install, then how/why would it have the NS file in the ShareDir? Puzzles me. But then...that's rather easy. ;-) Thanks, Noel. Jan |

The only thing I can think of is that when AOL bought Nutscrape, they
moneyed around with it a lot.....hang on - didn't they play with setting up NutScrape as an ISP? - if so, then that may be the reason for your problems! I'd suggest uninstalling Nutscrape - see if that solves the problem. If it does, then see if the AOL-related folders are gone too. - you could try d/ling NS Navigator only - which seems to come without the trimmings - look here http://wp.netscape.com/download/full_install.html -- Noel Paton (MS-MVP 2002-2004, Win9x) Nil Carborundum Illegitemi http://www.btinternet.com/~winnoel/millsrpch.htm Please read http://dts-l.org/goodpost.htm on how to post messages to NG's or http://www.microsoft.com/presspass/f.../Mar27pmvp.asp "Jan Il" wrote in message ... I'd suggest uninstalling Nutscrape - see if that solves the problem. If it does, then see if the AOL-related folders are gone too. I uninstalled the NS, and the all the AOL related folders were still there, but, all the files in them were gone. So....guess that answered the question of if it was packaged with NS. I did a Search and Registry Find to make sure I got all the cobwebs too, just to be sure. And yes...I did back up my Registry first. See..I'm a good student. A bit slow perhaps...but, I eventually learn....:-)) - you could try d/ling NS Navigator only - which seems to come without the trimmings - look here http://wp.netscape.com/download/full_install.html Problem with just the Navigator only is that it doesn't have the Composer, which is all I was after with NS in the first place. So..guess I'll have to find another proggy to do that in. Well...so much for that experiment... but, at least now you, and others, know that the full program of NS v7.1 does load AOL with it, like it or not. ;-) Thank you for you help, I really do appreciate it. I'll have a play sometime - see if I can strip it out (rather busy this
