Default win98se cant detect modem

Hi all, recently after I do formatting and reinstall back win98se I cant
detect my modem. Thinking that the present modem is faulty I bought another
modem.
And it still show cant detect the modem. I have checked all connections is all
connected. I have used the same modem for 3 years already but why now cant
detect. I believe if I install another new modem it will still not able to
detect the modem and I cant surf the net. i know the modem is in working
condition. Please advise what to do. Tks.

Default win98se cant detect modem

Unplug the computer, open the case and remove any unnecessary peripherals,
like network and sound cards. Start the computer, tap the F8 key repeatedly
until the startup menu appears and select Safe mode. Then go to Control
Panel, System, Device Manager and remove the driver or drivers for the
modem. Also, remove the drivers for the peripherals that you just removed.
Then restart normally. If Windows doesn't detect and install the modem,
go to Control Panel, Add New Hardware and install it manually. If this
doesn't help, please repost with more information, including manufacturer
and model of the modem.

Right click My Computer, select properties, select device manager, expand the
modem +sign and remove the modem from your system. Then go to control panel,
select add new hardware, select the manufacture of the modem then select the
model then select have disk and load the drivers from the OEM disk. I've had
lots of trouble with Win98SE not detecting modems. I hope this helps!
