Default USB has 2 ports but only reading 1, it used to read 2 ??

I use my broadband modem in 1 of 'em
I used to use a lexmark printer in the other...worked OK, but then i got an
EMPREX WebCam and it just will not recognise it being there....

I tell a lie...it recognised it about twice in 100 connection attempts?

I have a 333mhz Athlon processor, WinME(i know)

It sometimes asks me for a dll called usnpstd but i dunno what it is on
about, the software that came with the webcam does not have this driver on
it?
But it is the fact that the Device Manager is very picky about what i choose
to put in the 2nd usb slot, is 1 of them a main 1 and the other a slave
type?..they both look the same, and my modem works in either ? Any Help Guys
??

I don't really know how far you've come in your troubleshooting here but I
can tell you that webcams on ME have been problematic for me in the past
only I think I had used both Logitec and Ezonics. Anyhow if you have any
stuff installed with it already I'd delete it and remove anything found to
do with the webcam and start again fresh and make sure to reboot. This time
I'd remove all USB devices, install the software and drivers, and then
reboot. I'd then stick the webcam into the slot and after it told you to I'd
reboot again. It generally seemed to take a few reboots because I never
remembered to install the software before plugging in the webcam and fixing
it required going through the whole mess I'd described above. Other than
that you could/should get a NIC and put it in your case for the 'net
connection. USB modems generally seem to cause more trouble than they're
worth.

USB 1.x drivers

This seems to be a common problem with some OEM installs of Win Me.

The files are in the "cab" files in the Win9x folder on the Win Me CD and/or
in a sub-folder of Windows\Options and not directly visible in Explorer.
See
MS KB 265371 - "How to Extract and Replace a Protected File in Windows Me"
(http://support.microsoft.com?kbid=265371) for details of how to extract
files
from the cab set. Alternatively use MSConfig | General | Extract File...
and
follow the prompts to extract a new copy of the required files to your
windows\system32\drivers folder . Most USB related files can be found in
BASE2.CAB although some are located in other cabs.

However probably the easiest way to proceed is for you visit to
http://www.usb-drivers.com/drivers/63/63237.htm and download usb-WinMe.exe
which contains WinMe's usb related files. Extract the files you want and
put
them in windows\system32\drivers.
