Adding USB 2.0 externat HD / Problems

I have added a USB 2.0 card to my daughters computer running ME. The install
went fine and it will recognize a compact flash reader I have . I really
want to add a external HD so I can back up her system. I bought a case and
put a 20 gig used drive I had in it. The drive is formatted Fat 32 and when
I plug in the external case ME picks it up ( as I see the icon in the tray
and can dismount it but nowhere can I access the HD. I have tried jumper set
to slave and cable select. Anyone have any suggestions here?

Although you say that the external HD is already formatted, you *might* find
the following link useful in using FDISK to confirm that it is so.
