Resolution/Refresh Rate problems.
Hi,
I have an Nvidia GeForce 2 graphics card which I have been using for around half a year and have, untill now, had no problems with it. I also have a disabled on-board Intel card, which I no-longer use. My problem is that I can only run the display in 640X480 resolution and I can only run in 60Hz refresh rate. I looked at Nvidia's website and the FAQ says that if you can only run in 60Hz it is probably because your monitor wasn't detected properly. I also have the latest drivers and have tried everything! Can anybody please help with this? |

Look in Device Manager for the description of the video card driver. If
it's a generic VGA driver then the nVidia drivers need to be re-installed. The resolution problem needs to be solved before you look at the refresh rate problem. -- Jeff Richards MS MVP (Windows - Shell/User) "Max H" wrote in message ... It is a generic VGA driver and I have reinstalled the
drivers many times and have had no luck. Perhaps I should have mentioned that my computer thinks I have 2 monitors which I don't. Does that make a difference. Thanks to anyone who can help. -----Original Message----- Look in Device Manager for the description of the video card driver. What do you mean 'no luck"? Does the installation fail, or does the
installation succeed but the drivers don't change? What procedure are you using to do the installation? -- Jeff Richards MS MVP (Windows - Shell/User) "Max" wrote in message ... The resolution and refresh rate problem doesn't change at
all when I reinstall the drivers. I have no problem installing them. I don't know if the problem is the fault of the drivers or the system. I don't know why my system is displaying 2 monitors when I only have 1 and only 1 video out. I seem to be able to run monitor 2 in any resolution/refresh rate, but that doesn't help much because that monitor doesn't exist. Thanks for your help. -----Original Message----- What do you mean 'no luck"? Does the installation fail, or does the installation succeed but the drivers don't change? So you are running the installation process for the new drivers, and the
process completes OK, and the driver is listed with the correct name and description in Device Manager? Try removing both monitors and see what Windows re-installs. Are you sure that you don't have two display adapters (for instance, one on the motherboard and one on a plug in card)? How many display adapters (not monitors) are listed in Device manager? What process are you using to access the settings for the second monitor (usually, monitor settings are accessed through he display adapter properties)? -- Jeff Richards MS MVP (Windows - Shell/User) "Max" wrote in message ...
