Default Windows 98 start up problem

Having problems loading Windows 98. Windows 98 starts to
load then switches off.

Prior to this problem I did a Quick Claen of the my
computer using Mcafee QC. Not sure if this is coincidence.

Also I do not have a Windows 98 disk since my PC came with
Windows loaded. So I guess I can't do a reinstall?

Anyone any suggestions?

Hi Martin,
You might try restoring a good copy of your Registry, *prior* to running
QuickClean.
Re-boot your machine, and hold down the CTRL key until a menu comes up.
From the options given select "Command Prompt Only"
From the Command prompt type "scanreg /restore" (without the quotes).
Select a copy of the Registry PRIOR to running QuickClean. Re-boot your
machine, and see if that cures it. Post back with your results.
**There is a space between scanreg and the / **
HTH,
Curt

Hi Steve,
I did a little research before I posted, and it cleans Internet history,
cookies, Temp files, and then the kicker--It also cleans your Registry for
you!
Lovely!

The real kicker is that registry cleaner comes from McAfee.

Hi Martin,
I'm not sure where to respond, as you have two threads going now.
A great deal of us in this NG don't care too much for McAfee products, but
the concern with QC is the Registry Cleaner aspect. All/any "Registry
Cleaners" *must* be run with caution. They have the potential of mucking
things up far worse than no cleaning at all.

Curt
