Default "Paint" Default Picture Viewer?

When I print screen and save it with the Paint program, I used to be able to
open it in paint. Now it opens in Quick Time. How do I revert Paint as my
default viewer. My operating system is Windows 98SE.
Thanks,
Bob

Theory = File Association: do
/ start / help / index
type in FILE EXTENSIONS
select ASSOCIATING FILES WITH PROGRAMS

Practice:
Locate MSPAINT.EXE and make a note of its filepath
Select (highlight) one filename or
icon for a graphic file (image).
Shift and Right Click
select menu item OPEN WITH
1. If MS Paint is listed, select it
2. If MS Paint is not listed, /Browse to it and select it.
3. Uncheck the box ALWAYS USE THIS PROGRAM
Click OK
If this opens the graphic you selected with the app
you selected, repeat the process and this time
3. Check the box ALWAYS USE THIS PROGRAM

General: MSPAINT is not a good choice to view images.

Mebbe,
however I always default to "Paint" when I need to
"cut out a black square" from an image. No other seems capable.
I use what I feel a superior product in "ACDSee" but even this product
fails to offer the cut and remove.

A similar irritation I find in Windows Explorer, I always default to
ACDSee to rename multiple files on the fly, I have always wondered why such
a basic option was not included in Explorer.

IrfanView has no trouble whatsoever cutting out a black square. Drag to
outline, EdiCut Selection. It properly uses a null or black background
instead of the typical white one you find in most others. IrfanView will
also recognize most image and video formats and prompt you to correct the
extension if it's not right, instead of choking on it with some error
message or other. Not too many others do that, if any.

IrfanView also has the most complete set of batch automation tools I've ever
seen for processing images and video files, including batch renaming, etc.
Check it out. IMO, it beats ACDSee on every count. With IrfanView and
Photoshop, my image editing and management tools are complete.

Goodness, you nearly had me choke on my Porridge.
"Irfan view as good as ACDSee"
in my son's vernacular..."Yeah right!...as if"

Being an open minded fellow, I'll revisit Irfanview
but last time I tried, It felt like hopping into a Goggomobile from the Porsche.

When you have something to say that will actually illuminate us, I'd be
interested. Thus far you've claimed ACDSee is superior to all others on two
counts. I've refuted both. Have you others?

I couldn't do without "Paint" either.
Just so simple and fast far a lot of little things.
I used to make all my Icons with it.
All my little grandkids loved it too.
Only thing in Win3.1, I got perplexed about all those big bitmaps

Now! Now! You all be nice. I have ACDSee 3.something or the other, which
came with my HP Scanjet 4470c. In almost three years, I have only just
begun to explore the awesome amenities it has. My favorite is the slide
show, and thumbnails. You can make slide shows of just about any group of
images, and documents I presume. I've been trying for updates or upgrades,
so far no good. Paint is okay but, you better watch the sizing. I like
Paint for creating color swatches.

Some people just don't have a sense of humour

I find more and more I use ACDSee as my "windows explorer"
and launch all my programs thru it.
I also need to upgrade, I find my very early version will not
accept special characters in the file name box
eg: The Brit Pound sign etc.
I undestand the later versions do.
