Windows 98 Second Edition Upgrade
I have windows 98 first edition on my IBM 300PL computer
and purchased a windows 98 second edition upgrade disk. I am getting different answers to whether or not I will loose all my data and whether or not it will wipe out the info on the hard drive when upgrading to windows 98 second edition. Does anyone know if I will lose my data and will it wipe out my hard drive when I upgrade to windows 98 second edition. I have a lot of programs, data etc that I do not want to lose. Thank you. |

Windows 98 Second Edition Upgrade
As far as I know you should be fine. I have used the Windows 98 Second Edition upgrade CD on my computer and didn't lose any data. The only thing it upgrades is system files and other stuff that was included on the Windows 98 first edition install (Internet Explorer, Outlook Express, etc.), but not anything that you installed off other CDs/Floppies/downloads. Alex PS: Windows 98 SE is much better then First Edition in my opinion. -----Original Message----- I have windows 98 first edition on my IBM 300PL computer and purchased a windows 98 second edition upgrade disk. Windows 98 Second Edition Upgrade
98SE is required in some programs as a bare minimum. Also, USB 2.0 needs at
least 98SE. "dave" wrote in message ... I have windows 98 first edition on my IBM 300PL computer and purchased a windows 98 second edition upgrade disk. Windows 98 Second Edition Upgrade
If installed as an upgrade, your old programs and data will be retained.
However, as with any OS install, do a backup first because there is always the possibility of an error. "dave" wrote in message ...
