Invalid Sustem Disk
I installed a formatted Hard Drive in my computer and attempted to boot up
with a floppy. In fact, I attempted to boot up with 3 different floppies which I had downloaded from the internet. In each case I received the error message, "Invalid System Disk. " I tried changing the order of boot up in the BIOS, but that did help. Any suggestions would be appreciated. |

In most cases, what you download from the Internet is a "boot floppy
diskmaker"....a program that will create a boot floppy when you run it. Do not download the boot disk maker to the floppy disk; download it to the hard drive of any working computer, then run it ad follow the instructions to create a boot floppy disk. When done, take the boot floppy to your computer and boot with it. -- Glen Ventura, MS MVP Shell/User, A+ "Abe" wrote in message news:lnlbg.10$nA2.1@trndny01... Thanks for the reply. That is just what I did, and despite that got

Use the machine you are posting with to make a new floppy boot disk using
the Fat32ebd.exe file located on the W98 CD: tools/mtsutil/fat32ebd. In the BIOS, make sure the floppy drive is listed as the first boot device. -- Regards Ron Badour, MS MVP for W98 Tips: http://home.satx.rr.com/badour Knowledge Base Info: http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?pr=kbinfo "Abe" wrote in message news:lnlbg.10$nA2.1@trndny01... You need to determine whether the message is referring to the hard drive
(which you know doesn't have an OS) or the floppy, which should be OK but might not be. Does the message change if there's no floppy disk in the drive at all? That may tell you whether the system really is trying to boot from floppy. Try disconnecting the new hard drive - does the message change. Can you tell that the floppy is being accessed by the lights that flash during booting? If it isn't using the floppy then perhaps the BIOS boot sequence isn't set correctly, or perhaps the BIOS isn't seeing the floppy at all for some reason. If it is trying to boot from the floppy but failing, and if you are quite sure the boot disk has been set up correctly, then either the floppy drive or its cable is faulty, or the BIOS is configured for a different type of floppy drive. -- Jeff Richards MS MVP (Windows - Shell/User) "Abe" wrote in message news:lnlbg.10$nA2.1@trndny01...
