WIN98SE display problems
Not sure if this is the correct place to ask this question but there are a
lot of smart people here so I will ask anyways. I have a VAMP-WM15M monitor. Our assembly test guys run programs in windows and in DOS. We have found that when they ALT + TAB from the windows desktop to the DOS program that sometimes the monitor freezes up. It either comes up with a distorted view of the program and if you ALT + TAB back and forth a few times the screen might come up normal or it will come up black and you can not ALT + TAB out of it. I have been told that it might have something to do with switching from standard VGA mode to Super VGA mode. I must unplug the monitor cable from the computer for a few seconds and then plug it back in. Sometimes two or three times to get the monitor back to normal. If I take an external LCD monitor down there put it on top of the cabinet and plug it in I do not have these issues. Can you offer any insight as to why this is happening? I display settings at 1024 x 768. This only seems to happen on two of my three machines. The cables for the monitor are new and plugged in securly. |

The description of the problem you have been given would be correct if the
DOS session was running in full screen mode. If the DOS session was running in a window (even if it's a window as large as the whole screen) then there is no mode switching occurring and the monitor should not have to change anything. -- Jeff Richards MS MVP (Windows - Shell/User) "pjhjones" wrote in message news Not sure if this is the correct place to ask this question but there are a lot of smart people here so I will ask anyways. Was it made before 1995? they ALT + TAB from the windows desktop to the DOS program that sometimes the monitor freezes up. I display settings at 1024 x 768. At what refresh rate is your 1024 x 768 set to? And turning the monitor's power off, then back on, doesn't bring the display back? This only seems to happen on two of my three machines. The cables for the monitor are new and plugged in securly. You might have the refresh rate set too high in 1024 x 768 mode. I'd play with that first. |

Does Alt-Enter toggle between full-screen and windowed mode? If I take an external LCD monitor down there put it on top of the cabinet and plug it in I do not have these issues. When in DOS mode, access the LCD monitor's menu and find out which horizontal and vertical frequencies the graphics card/chip is using. Compare with the good machines. Can you offer any insight as to why this is happening? I display settings at 1024 x 768. This only seems to happen on two of my three machines. Does the problem machine have a different graphics card/chip or driver or refresh rate? The cables for the monitor are new and plugged in securly. - Franc Zabkar -- Please remove one 'i' from my address when replying by email. |

WIN98SE display problems
When you say full screen mode I assume you mean that it is not a window where
you can see the desk top behind it. If so it is running in full screen mode. They still need to ALT + TAB to get to the desktop sometimes. Not while they are running tests, but before they start and when they go back to the DOS application to start it comes back distorted. Im not sure that I can adjust the refresh rate or even see what it is at.
I have been looking through the settings and can not seem to find anything that allows me to see what it is at or how to adjust it. "98 Guy" wrote: pjhjones wrote: I have a VAMP-WM15M monitor.
