The whole point of what was on the website was that once you get to Windows
Update, you divert to the Catalog - and get the 329115 update from there,
before downloading anything else!

quote
Now we have to repair the 329115 patch which IER has broken - Go to Windows
Update, and do a scan for downloads there.

In the left pane, look under the 'See Also header - is 'Windows Update
Catalog' listed? If not, see below.

If it is, than click on it, and select 'Find Updates for MS Windows
operating systems'

Highlight 'Windows Millennium Edition', and click on Advanced search options

In the 'Contains these words' box type 329115 and click 'Search'

There should be a Single Critical patch - click on the entry, and then Add
it to your Download basket, and go to the download basket - click on the
Browse button, and browse to the Desktop icon, and click OK, then click
'Download Now'

Once it's downloaded, log off the Internet and close IE then double-click on
the 'WU' folder created on your desktop, and keep burrowing down the 6
layers until you get to the 329115_ME.EXE file, and double-click on that.
accept the warning, and install the patch

Reboot

The following has occurred:
The 329115 Patch in Noel's copy-righted Instructions would always Default
to
Windows Update when the 329115 DnLoad link was clk'd, so I updated what it
gave;
Windows KEEPS saying KB837009 (OE SP1) is a Critical Update Required even
after I installed it 3 times ( showed Successful & is in History 3 times).
Only once did Win Update let me go to 329115 page and it finally DnLoaded;
Error Msg when 329115.EXE Clk'd on Desktop: "Q329115.EXE File is Linked to
Missing export NTDLL.DLL:strstr" ; (I see NTDLL.DLL in Windows\System)
Behind that Error Block is: "A Device attached to the System is not
functioning" (and the C:\Windows\Desktop Path for 329115.EXE is the header
on
that block).
Maybe I can just look at Office Downloads & go by dates to manually
Update;
Any idea How to Tell Win Updates that KB837009 OESP1 is Loaded?
Thanks for all that you did!!

best to make this the folder containing ie6setup.exe.

Surely Install & Run if Chosen is not related to Download - Install

Noel: My Windows Update page did Not have the Catalog on the left ( Only
"About Win Update") and when using your "See Below Link", it never occurred
to me to look at What's Next-Still Problems or How to Check it Out and
know that the path to take is under If Help & Support is Not Working, and
that at the bottom of the link page is a Link to the Catalog to Search for
329115.
You ought to expand your copy-righted instructions to cover all that as it's
not intuitive at all.
I found / Installed the WU patch.
Office Update still Freezes at 51%.
Is Windows Me Re-Install Next? I won't ask you two to help but I suspect
that's all that's left.
Many Thanks again to you & Mike!

Not at all!!
Have you run Belarc to check on your patch status??

I still have problems seeing how you missed the clear instruction
"In the left pane, look under the 'See Also header - is 'Windows Update
Catalog' listed? If not, see below. "
- especially as 'below' is a hyperlink to the instructions to enable the
Catalog in Windows Update.

If after all patches are properly installed, office update refuses to work
properly, then your best bet is to post your problem in the appropriate
Office newsgroup - to which I'm copying this post.

Noel, the See Below Hyperlink only moved me 2 inches down the same
instruction page, didn't take me to any Instructions at another link site (
as I found via the "If Help & Support is Not Working" link) -
329115 Shows OK in Win Me in Belarc.
Per your line "your best bet is to post your problem in the appropriate
Office newsgroup - to which I'm copying this post." - Presume that is
"Office Update" Chat Group? Thanks again.

Craig
You really *must* begin to answer questions as presented, rather than go
off on tangents.....

FWIW - when you clicked on the 'below' link, it moved the focus of the
screen so that the relevant informational @Note@ was at the top of the
screen....
to quote
"Note - to enable the Windows Update Catalog , you need to go to Windows
Update, and scan for updates - when the scan is complete, in the left pane,
you'll see a link to 'Personalize Windows Update' - click on that, and then
put a checkmark in the 'Display the link to the Windows Update Catalog under
See Also' box - save the settings, and the link should appear on the left."

The 329115 Patch in Noel's copy-righted Instructions would always
Default
to
Windows Update when the 329115 DnLoad link was clk'd, so I updated
what
it
gave;
Windows KEEPS saying KB837009 (OE SP1) is a Critical Update Required

Only once did Win Update let me go to 329115 page and it finally

Error Msg when 329115.EXE Clk'd on Desktop: "Q329115.EXE File is
Linked

Windows\System)
Behind that Error Block is: "A Device attached to the System is not
functioning" (and the C:\Windows\Desktop Path for 329115.EXE is the
header
on
that block).
Maybe I can just look at Office Downloads & go by dates to manually
Update;
Any idea How to Tell Win Updates that KB837009 OESP1 is Loaded?
Thanks for all that you did!!

Rather than clicking No click Yes. The download continues and
when
finished presents you with the following:
"Setup has finished downloading from the Windows Update.
Run "ie6setup.exe from the "folder you downloaded the files to"
folder
when ready to complete Setup".
and an OK button.

BTW in "f" in my previous post I forgot to mention that you have
the
ability to choose the folder to which the files are downloaded.
It
is
best to make this the folder containing ie6setup.exe.

I said No, and then it falls apart. Error msg: "Unable to
Download

Surely Install & Run if Chosen is not related to Download -
Install
Later. When I tried ie6setup.exe again it gives a choice to
Resume or Start Over; I Started Over & reached same Dead-end

it
wanting to Install & Run. After the Advanced tab was clk'd and
I
chose Download Only, it created a Windows\Windows Update Setup

when ready. That's where I've been operating from -
Any other ideas?

Default Can Windows Me Lock-up Office XP Updates?

I use Windows 98SE, but I have been repeatedly prompted to download the
Outlook update kb837009. The update program does not allow for any other
updates. How can I get around this? I looked in add/remove programs, and
the file is not listed. I downloaded it, but it is for Windows XP only. Any
help? Thanks.

Noel: My Windows Update page did Not have the Catalog on the left ( Only
"About Win Update") and when using your "See Below Link", it never
occurred
to me to look at What's Next-Still Problems or How to Check it Out and
know that the path to take is under If Help & Support is Not Working,
and
that at the bottom of the link page is a Link to the Catalog to Search for
329115.
You ought to expand your copy-righted instructions to cover all that as
it's
not intuitive at all.
I found / Installed the WU patch.
Office Update still Freezes at 51%.
Is Windows Me Re-Install Next? I won't ask you two to help but I suspect
that's all that's left.
Many Thanks again to you & Mike!

"Noel Paton" wrote:

The whole point of what was on the website was that once you get to
Windows
Update, you divert to the Catalog - and get the 329115 update from there,
before downloading anything else!

Now we have to repair the 329115 patch which IER has broken - Go to
Windows
Update, and do a scan for downloads there.

In the left pane, look under the 'See Also header - is 'Windows Update
Catalog' listed? If not, see below.

If it is, than click on it, and select 'Find Updates for MS Windows
operating systems'

Highlight 'Windows Millennium Edition', and click on Advanced search
options

In the 'Contains these words' box type 329115 and click 'Search'

There should be a Single Critical patch - click on the entry, and then
Add
it to your Download basket, and go to the download basket - click on the
Browse button, and browse to the Desktop icon, and click OK, then click
'Download Now'

Once it's downloaded, log off the Internet and close IE then double-click
on
the 'WU' folder created on your desktop, and keep burrowing down the 6
layers until you get to the 329115_ME.EXE file, and double-click on that.
accept the warning, and install the patch

Reboot

On the contrary - the KB837009 update is relevant to most varieties of
Windows -
look here
http://www.microsoft.com/technet/sec.../ms04-013.mspx
depending on your version of IE/OE, you should install the appropriate patch
