Cannot create shortcut here?
Win98 SE
I have a desktop item that i am trying to move into my START list. As i drag it through the lists it gives the horizontal line which basically means that is where it would successfully drop. However when i reach the place I want (the startup directory, fwiw) and release the mouse button I get a dialogue box saying "Windows cannot create a shortcut here. Do you wish to create a desktop icon? Y/N. Since I have done the same thing dozens of times before, this baffles me. (Not just the Startup sub-folder, it will not drop onto the START list anywhere.) Any ideas? FACE |

What exactly is the desktop item you are trying to drop into the start menu?

I personally never put a batch file or an executable itself into the StartUp folder.
I have used a DOS shortcut (.pif) in the StartUp folder to run a batch file. I simply place the shortcut in the folder using Windows Explorer....likewise for shortcuts to executables (.lnk). I do not understand why you are using a batch file to run Transparent.exe in the first place. The text file included with the program tells you how to use command line arguments in a standard shortcut's Target line....no batch file is needed. -- Glen Ventura, MS MVP W95/98 Systems http://dts-l.org/goodpost.htm "FACE" wrote in message ... I created the command line with argument in a shortcut, then moved it into
the start folder, and that was accepted. Why the batch file? Good question -- musta seemed like a good idea at the time is all I can say. :-) Thanks for your help....again, FACE On Thu, 25 Nov 2004 23:22:10 -0500, "glee" in microsoft.public.win98.performance wrote: I personally never put a batch file or an executable itself into the StartUp folder.
