Default Lowest setting resolution and only 16 or 2 colour option!

Hi when installing a D-Link wireless network on my dads WIN 98se computer i
seem to have broken it as when you switch it on now it loads up in the
poorest resolution (with only 16 or 2 colour option) and doesnt allow you to
change them.

Also when i go onto the control panel to access the intel graphics
properties section it says "The driver for this control panel applet is
currently not running or is not available"

"No 3D device or drivers found"

As far as im aware i didnt alter any of the graphics properties when
installing the network but have uninstalled the D-Link software just in case.

If anyone has any suggestions i would really appreciate it

(would updating to win2000 help as im sick of problems with 98se)

If you just reinstalled Windows, or you cannot change to 256, 16 bit,
or 32 bit color, you probably need to reinstall your video card drivers.

To reinstall your video card drivers, you need to know the exact make
and model of your video card in order to install the correct/updated
drivers.

There are several ways to determine what kind of video card you have.

1. Check the manual that came with your PC.

2. You can open your PC tower to look at the video card and note the
name
and numbers printed on it.

3. You can download and run this free program. It might be able to
determine
what kind of video card you have:

Everest Home Edition

http://www.lavalys.com/products/down...=en&pageid=3To find
the Everest info you need to post, run the Everest program, and click the +
sign next to Computer on the left side of your screen then click
Summary. Then Right click the information on the *right* side of your screen
and select Copy. You can then paste the information in Notepad or paste it
directly to this newsgroup.

Everest will tell you a lot about what's inside your PC. In addition
to telling us the *Brand and Model Number* of your computer, please post
back
the information Everest reports for your:

Motherboard

CPU

Chipset

Display PCI/AGP Video

Display GPU

This information will assist us in finding the correct video drivers,
and directing you to the video card manufacturer's website so you can
download
and install them.

*** IMPORTANT *** Remember to tell us the *Brand and Model Number* of
your computer which is printed on your PC case or is listed in the manual
that
came with your computer.

As for upgrading, you're better off going with Windows XP Home or XP
Professional if your computer is less than 3 years old. You can download
the Microsoft Upgrade Advisor which will tell you what components are
capable of handling XP and which ones are not.

It may be due to a device conflict if you just added a new NIC, =
although the NIC and Display adapter/chip should play well together =
sharing driver resources. Have a look in Device Manager to see if there =
are any conflicts which will be notated by a Yellow ! or Red X.

If there are conflicts you may be able to change the devices resource =
to a another that does not conflict although it may be easier to =
uninstall/reinstall the device to see if it works it out.

If you still have trouble with conflicts then it comes down to moving =
the adapters to different slots to see if that will work it out.

If you continue to have problems after all of the above you may need to =
remove all the devices and reinstall them one at a time. If after doing =
this and still no joy, you may need to lose a device.

Start with Joe's suggested reinstall of the device.

Conflicts start where information lacks.
