Folder appearance: Large Icons / List
Is there a way to change the default appearance of folder
contents? Any time a new folder is created, files and subfolders always appear as "Large Icons". I prefer to display them in "List" form instead but can't find any way to change the default. Possible? How to? |

Open a folder, set the view the way you like it.
Then click on the View menu and select Folder Options Click on the View tab and celect the button labelled "Apply to all Folders" This will set the current view as the default for all folders. Hi; I've tried that a hundred times thinking that was the
answer; the "Apply to all Folders" button on the View tab of Folder Options affects only the check-box and radio- button items in the Advanced Settings window. I believe there must be a setting somewhere in the registry that would control the default. What say, you Registry wizards? -----Original Message----- Open a folder, set the view the way you like it. Also, uncheck the setting "remember each folders view settings"
It does work, I use it all the time Regards Mark Dormer "bump-r" wrote in message ... Well, what is the condition of the folder in which you create the new
folder? Geez! Fine, let me try it... it seems a new folder picks up the View setting of it's parent. If the parent is Details view, so will be the child. (Your kids look a lot like you, don't they, bump-r?!) Here, try this to get everything in Details view... (1) Set the folder as you will. (2) Even resize it, USING the mouse and dragging the borders. (3) Hold Ctrl as you click to close the folder/window. (4) Perhaps, reboot. If you wish, also "START, Settings, Folder Options, View tab, Reset all folders" before step (1). Then, "Like current folder" before step (3). Of course, all individualized folder settings, except perhaps "thumbnail view", will be lost. If still unhappy, try turning off "Remember each folders' view settings" before step (1), and back on later. Here are some articles that might have additional info.
