Slave HDD incompatable DOS mode?
hi ppl.
Im trying to install my samsung 40gb HDD as a slave drive but in "my computer" it is listed twice as drive D and E.(exactly the same size with the same data on each) In the performance tab of System properties it says "drive D is using incompatable DOS mode" Ive tried reinstalling new "VIA bus master PCI IDE controller", and "Generic IDE disc type 47" drivers and changing the jumper settings and im just about to reformatt..... Can anyone suggest something to try fix this problem?? T.I.A Alex |

Reboot to Safe Mode
Open Device Manager Remove ALL HD's Remove ALL CD's Remove ALL IDE Master Controllers Remove ALL devices in 'Other Devices' branch if present Remove ALL error-flagged devices Reboot to Normal Mode - Windows will reinstall the drivers - see if that helps -- Noel Paton (MS-MVP 2002-2004, Win9x) Nil Carborundum Illegitemi http://www.btinternet.com/~winnoel/millsrpch.htm Please read http://dts-l.org/goodpost.htm on how to post messages to NG's or http://www.microsoft.com/presspass/f.../Mar27pmvp.asp "alex b" wrote in message ... hi ppl. Slave HDD incompatable DOS mode?
thanks for your reply Noel.
i booted to safe mode and my mouse didnt work (usb mouse) so while im navigating to the device manager with the keyboard i got a few blue screen of death crashes. so i restart and all is fixed?!?! no more DOS mode and the hard drive isnt shown twice. i had already tried removing some of the devices u listed but never in safe mode so maybe when i booted to safe mode that was all it needed. :-) cheers alex. Ah well - at least you're back up and running!g
(Check in your BIOS to see if there's an option to Enable USB support in DOS - it may work for you) -- Noel Paton (MS-MVP 2002-2004, Win9x) Nil Carborundum Illegitemi http://www.btinternet.com/~winnoel/millsrpch.htm Please read http://dts-l.org/goodpost.htm on how to post messages to NG's or http://www.microsoft.com/presspass/f.../Mar27pmvp.asp "alex b" wrote in message ... thanks for your reply Noel. i booted to safe mode and my mouse didnt work (usb mouse) so while im navigating to the device manager with the keyboard i got a few blue screen of death crashes. so i restart and all is fixed?!?! no more DOS mode and the hard drive isnt shown twice. i had already tried removing some of the devices u listed but never in safe mode so maybe when i booted to safe mode that was all it needed. :-) cheers alex.
