using wifi with ME
I'm trying to set up a computer running ME to connect to the Web via wifi.
How do I scan for available networks and where do I enter the network key?? Is there anything along the lines of an online setup guide? Thanks! |

Your wireless network adapter should have come with instructions telling you
how to do all this. We can't tell you since the exact sequence of steps and the tools you'd use will be different depending on which wireless adapter you have. -- Richard G. Thanks. I installed and configured the software that came with the
Actiontec PCMCIA wireless adapter that I'm using. The software doesn't seem to have the capability to scan for available wireless networks--you need to know the name of the network you want to access an manually put in the necessary info. I'm now wondering if the lack of scanning is somehow a limitation of ME (i.e., there's no software out there that would allow scanning for networks if its running on ME), or if there might be other software out there with scanning capability that would work with an Actiontec pc card. Any lack of functionality is down to the software you have installed for
use with your wireless adapter rather than the operating system. Have you checked with Actiontec that you are installing the latest software and tools for your card? -- Mike Maltby MS-MVP "Doug Quirk" wrote ... Thanks. As Mike said, the problem isn't WindowsMe - I have used it in public
locations with wireless and it scans for networks just fine, but that's because the software that came with my wireless adapter allows it. I'd suspect the fault is in your wireless software package. -- Richard G. Harper [MVP Shell/User] * PLEASE post all messages and replies in the newsgroups * for the benefit of all.
