Disk Defragmentation
Shows in box that defragmenting process is running, however, the percentage seldom changes-sometimes it will go up to 2%-but never further. Generally it remains on 0%.
Please, will somebody help me?? |

Disk Defragmentation
Hi Oscar,
It may be that you have an app that is accessing the disk ocasionally running in the background, if this is the case everytime it accesses the disk, defrag will restart as the disk has changed state and you will be stuck in an endless loop while it tries to get the state of the hard disk consistent, ie defrag starts, app modifies disk, defreag restarts, app modifies disk, defrag restarts etc. First check there are no other apps runing in the task bar, Exit out of any apps that aren't necessary in the system tray, Try Ctrl+Alt + del, and see what apps you have running in the background, if any of them can be stopped stop them and this should cure your problem. Disk Defragmentation
I suggest that you remove Temporary Internet Files ( including Offline
Content ) and History. Start Settings, Control Panel, Internet Options, General, Temporary Internet Files, Delete Files, check Offline Content and click on OK. Also empty your Recycle Bin. This helps remove a potential problem when running Disk Defragmenter. Another precaution. Delete the contents of the applog folder ( the content not the folder! ). See link below (disregard the references to the error messages ) for the procedure. Defrag Error Message: ID NoEFRAG00205 (Q238165) http://support.microsoft.com/default...;en-us;Q238165 I would then run Disk Defragmenter in Safe Mode. To start Windows in safe mode Click Start, and then click Shut down. Click Restart, click OK, and then press and hold the CTRL key until the Microsoft Windows 98 Start-up Menu appears. For some machines, you can use F8 instead of CTRL to bring up the Microsoft Windows 98 Start-up Menu. Enter the number for Safe mode, and then press ENTER. Notes In safe mode, Windows uses default settings (VGA monitor, no network, Microsoft mouse driver, and the minimum device drivers required to start Windows). You will not have access to CD-ROM drives, printers, or other devices. ~~~~~~ Hope this helps.
