Audit Mode

Should a computer be running in "Audit Mode" - if not, do you go to regedit
and delete it?

I never heard of "Audit Mode". However, GG has 38,300 mentionings of it.

No it should not. The result usually of someone at the factory forgetting to close
audit mode, or from reinstalling Windows from the hard drive where the OEM's
msbatch.inf file is still present.

The Automated Support Assistant has found that Windows is running in "Audit Mode":

Exit all programs.
On the Windows taskbar, click Start Run.
In the Run dialog box, type the following:
regedit
Click OK.

Navigate to the following registry key:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\Curr entVersion

In the right pane, if it exists, select the following value:
AuditInProgress
Press Delete.
Click Yes to confirm the deletion.

In the right pane, if it exists, select the following value:
AuditMode
Press Delete.
Click Yes to confirm the deletion.

Exit the Registry Editor.

My machine is almost 5 years old - I did not know about the "audit mode"
until Norton informed me. What damage does it do?

Yes I did - symantec said to delete it - my question was - what harm is it to
have it in there - it has been in there since I got my machine???

You just got Symantec? My Registry has those Keys (values?), but they
are both ZERO. Yours were other than zero? (Don't know what it means.)
