Default How to print full contents of error message dialog windows

I am using Windows 98 SE, and need to learn how to print
out subject information, and particularly the "Details",
without resorting to several Screen Shots, followed by
manual typing of these "snippets" for presentation to
program vendors for problem analyses. The tables of
registry data are "Sanskrit" to me, but critical to
programmers, and I hate to proofread the characters over
and over to avoid providing misinformation to the
programmers.

I had assumed there are *.log files in which the messages
are stored after I have caused the programs to perform
illegal operations, but can't identify them in file
directories. It would be so much easier for me to use the
File Print procedure instead of multiple Screen Shots.

Install TweakUI if you don't already have it in Control Panel -
TweakUI 1.33:
http://www.microsoft.com/ntworkstati.../nttweakui.asp
Follow the instructions on that web page to install, then open it in Control Panel.
Click TweakUI's Paranoia tab.
Put a check in the box for "Log application errors to Faultlog.txt", and click OK.

Now, when you get an error, look in C:\Windows\Faultlog.txt, by opening it in
Notepad, or Wordpad, or your favourite editor. You can print it or any part of it,
from there.

In the detailed message window just move the mouse cursor to the
beginning of the text. Click and hold the left mouse button and drag
the cursor to the bottom of the message window. The entire error
message text is now selected.

Use Ctrl+C to copy the selected text. Then open Notepad or a word
processing program and use Ctrl+V to paste the error message text.

Save the file under an appropriate name.

Good luck

Pardon my confusion, but I am trying to respond to Glen

Ventura's instructions of 8/2/2004. Belatedly, I thank you
Glen. I regret to report that I did not get off "square 1"
in that I did not know how to install TweakUI in the
Control Panel. In the download process, I had these
options:
1. Save this file now.
2. Run this program now.
3. Download this file later.
I opted for Save, and the file ended up in C:\Windows\My
Downloads\...

I tried again, creating a folder "ERRORMSGS" on the
Desktop per the instructions, and moved Tweakui.exe there,
but could not do anything with it. I was rebuffed when I
tried to move it to the Control Panel - a message told me
that a CD was required in order to do that.

Somewhere along the way among my retries, I got access to
the Paranoia box, but checking "Log application errors to
Faultlog.txt" got me nowhere. No such file had been
created.

Color me DUMB!

Instructions for installing TweakUI are right on the page to which I gave you the
link:
http://www.microsoft.com/ntworkstati.../nttweakui.asp
or http://snipurl.com/8sx

Create a folder by right-clicking on the desktop, click New, and then click Folder.
Type a name for the folder.
Click the Download Now button at the top or bottom of this page. In the File
download dialog box that appears on your screen, click Save Program to Disk.
In the Save As dialog box, choose to save the file in the folder you just created,
then click Save.
Open the folder and double-click the downloaded file. This may create several new
files in your folder. Among these, look for a file named "TweakUI.inf".

Right-click the TweakUI.inf file and select install. Should a notice appear saying
a disk is required, click OK and another screen appears.
Click browse, go to the folder containing Tweak, OK and OK.
Close the Help file if it appears, to complete installation. When done, open
Control Panel, double-click TweakUI there, click the Paranoia tab, put a check in
the box I mentioned, and click OK.
