I really would appreciate substantiating briefly but roundly. Why? "No" sums up my response perfectly. As I said, for those who use their computer for simple routine tasks and don't network or do anything much else then Vista is perfect but so was XP. If you did anything more with your PC you would already know the problems that can be experienced when running Vista. This is why I can't be bothered with the Vista NGs. Windows 7 looks as if it might be better but yet again Microsoft have chosen not to listen to their users meaning that W7 could easily turn out to be yet another lemon. No classic mode, no mail app (good for third parties) or moviemaker (no loss there though) and much else dumbed down. Perfect for newbies and those that believe in the cloud but potentially useless for those that use their PCs for real processing. Hopefully I'm wrong and W7 will turn out something like the system Microsoft promised us in 2003 when the Longhorn beta was launched. -- Mike Maltby |

Please allow me one more question: Did your attitude towards Microsoft undergo a shifting process at some point in time? |

Hi Jack! ... or maybe these days I should say 'Hello, Jack'?
Good to see you around - it really IS like old home week here ATM! Your Christmas card (and attachments) was much apprciated over here - arriving safe and sound. Don't be a stranger... even I've been asked occasionally where you've got to!! Noel "Jack Martinelli" jemartin_no wrote in message ... OMG, I feel like I'm back at my fortieth high school reunion! All because I was browsing the DTS groups this AM, which I now do perhaps twice a month, when I'm good, and found a recent question Noel Paton, which Mike Maltby answered. In response, I'm led to the Google News accounts (for my first adventure there), where Google lets me subscribe, but not post, at least not today. Since my ancient WinME machine is retired now and not internet-capable (yet), here I am under XP SP3, where I see most, if not all, of the famous old MS WinME names, with whom I used to spend 2-12 hours a day, seven days a week, during 2000-2006. Be still my beating heart! Those times, when we all killed dragons daily, with our right hands, while strangling trolls with any hands left over, were some of my most interesting and enjoyable times. You were just great to me, and I miss you dearly. People I meet today are simply astonished that I was a part of such comradery, including a colleague in Tasmania, on the opposite side of our planet. So I wish all of you an excellent new year, esp. Messrs. Noel Paton and Mike Maltby, who were perhaps our best WinME commenters, among the dozen or so regular significant contributors. I think of Alex Nichol almost every month. Best to everyone, Jack E. Martinelli --- "Noel Paton" wrote in message ... 8 months life for an early Beta? - that's longer than usual, IIRC.... maybe they want to get it right this time? My ME HD is still up and running over 8 years later.
In fact, I'd stored some drivers for a video card for XP on it and upon rediscovering the hiding place [CRS strikes again], installed the drivers for a temporary respite until the card went and croaked. ME was better for me than Vista was. The only Vista edition installed is on a .vhd in Win7 just so I know what I'm not talking about. w Or, vice versa, whichever comes last. MowG. Good to see you back, Jack. Yours and Noels re-appearance have certainly
re-invigorated the Group. Mart "Jack Martinelli" jemartin_no wrote in message ... OMG, I feel like I'm back at my fortieth high school reunion! I have a mate who downloads a fair amount... I'll have to access his
machines for the Windows 7 Beta downloads via FTM (have you played with it yet?), I'm registered, but haven't downloaded anyuthing yet apart from one of the 'client' builds, which I haven't installed anywhere. I'll mail you an x64 dvd if you want, Noel. P. |

Hi Shane! (I ASSume that's you behind the mask?)
I'll probably run around to Mike's in a week or so and pick one up while I'm there - but thanks for the offer -- Noel Paton (MVP 2002-2006) (CrashFixPC) Nil Carborundum Illegitemi http://www.crashfixpc.co.uk "Pogle S. I'm sorry. You're talking to me?
When anyone with a funny name and the same source as me comes to this group, people figure it must be me! Anyway, catch you later. I just have to reinstall 2K8 to get the Windows Mail components to copy over the W7 ones to get Windows Mail back! I really should have backed them up! That's messing about with RAID for you! ! I wonder if the fact you can get Windows Mail working in W7 (the files are there, they just don't do any more than import OE settings) this way implies that it'll be an optional download - say, a *feature* - in the RTM. Only, seeing as how MS removed Windows Sidebar from 2K8 - though you can get it back easily enough by copying the files across etc (I use the ones from 2K8 b3) - maybe they *are* trying to kill Windows Mail. Me, I despise Windows Live Mail! I think I prefer Thunderbird (which I have always considered inferior to OE/Winmail). Also, one wonders whether the failure of Gadgets to run with UAC turned off is a stick to get donkeys to turn it back on. But, it is a beta, even if it is unusually usable! As the bowing to common sense on the UAC issue has just demonstrated. You been somewhere then, Noel? Shane Noel Paton wrote: Hi Shane! (I ASSume that's you behind the mask?)
