IE6 and Firefox slow to load internet pages.
I have Comcast cable high speed Internet access, Win98SE, Firefox 1.5,
and IE6. The Comcast home page takes 60 seconds to load. Other pages are correspondingly slow to load in both IE and Firefox. A laptop computer connected to the same cable by wireless does not have this problem. CPU=AMD K6 3D 400 MH Memory=384 MB Display adapter = Diamond Speedstar A50 for Windows 95. What should I look for as my limiting factor for speed. Suggestions will be appreciated. Stan Hilliard |

Stan Hilliard Also, using the example of Comcast home page, http://www.comcast.net/home.html it take about 1.5 seconds to show the page after it has been covered by another window. During that time only the browser frame is shown and the window is black. The time to paint the page gets faster when I cover it with a smaller window. Then when I bring it to the front the black part is smaller and it paints faster. Other web pages with less graphics on them are faster to show. I would like to determine the bottleneck and fix it. Stan Hilliard I'm using Opera, an AMD K6-2 450MHz CPU, 128MB memory, and onboard SiS 5597/8 graphics. I have a user Javascript routine that suppresses loading of flash, banner ads, and such like, but the remainder of the Comcast page still takes at least 40 secs to load and render. My ADSL download speed is about 50kB/s. - Franc Zabkar -- Please remove one 'i' from my address when replying by email. |
