Default Quick Launch Toolbar in wrong place

Using Windows 98SE, I temporarily closed the Quick Launch Toolbar by right
clicking the taskbar, selecting Toolbars and unchecking Quick Launch
Toolbar.

After I re-enabled the Quick Launch Toolbar, it isn't located where it
previously was. Initially, it was just to the right of the Start button
(which is at the lower left corner of the screen). After closing and then
reopening the Quick Launch Toolbar, it opened at the right of the taskbar,
just left of the task tray. If I drag the Quick Launch Toolbar to the left,
it stops an inch or so before the Start button and won't go any further.
There is a space in the taskbar between the Start button and the Quick
Launch Toolbar.

When I have programs open, the taskbar icons for the open programs are now
to the LEFT of the Quick Launch Toolbar, not to the right as they have
always been. The program icons are in the space between the Start button
and the Quick Launch Toolbar.

How do I move the Quick Launch Toolbar back to its original position just to
the right of the Start button? I should note that I have the taskbar set to
one row high, I have no other Toolbars selected and have not created any
custom toolbars.

I have tried everything I can think of to fix this. I've looked on the MS
KB and found nothing.

Can someone help me, please?

Thank you.

John

When it (the Quick Launch Toolbar) stops,
you should just ignore that fact
and just keep dragging the mouse to the left.

The QLT will suddenly jump back into place,
even if you have program icons on the Taskbar.

The QLT will jump right over them and all will be well again.

You *almost* had it. You have to "bump" the bar you're dragging when it
gets to that point where it will go no further, causing it to "jump" the
main portion of the Taskbar reserved for applications buttons. Takes
practice--be patient. Pretend you're moving the little bar you're
dragging to the spot right next to the Start button, and don't take no
for an answer.

John,

Move your mouse next to the right of the Taskbar slider, that is near
Start button, and hold down left mouse button. Your cursor has to turn
to the four-arrows one (probably you'll be need to try that not once --
to catch this region); when it will -- move Taskbar straight to the
right, over the head of QuickLaunch bar, and release mouse button.

Resize Taskbar after that, using its left slider.

Gary, Hugh and Mikhail,

Thanks to all of you for the quick replies and the "fix." Like so much with
PCs and Windows, it's all so easy when you know how to do it.

It's not easy at all, in this case, g. Some systems it's easy, some
it's not, and in some it's too *danged* easy, and you're forever
accidentally screwing up the Taskbar/Toolbar configuration. I like that
in WinXP, you can Lock the taskbar and prevent accidental rearranging or
resizing..

Also, in the cases of having behemoths such as Norton, McAfee, AOL and some
others the problems seem to lie with these programs as compared to actually
having Windows problems. Even some BSOD (Blue Screens Of Death) can be
caused by driver problems in third party hardware such as a Creative sound
problem. These BSOD used to be more frequent with older pcs.

Yeah, Gary... I remember, how I totally lost my Taskbar in Win95...
Reinstalled Windows on top -- with no result. Was thinking about
re-installing Windows from scratch (I hate this operation, particularly
when system is living in general), but fortunately mentioned two-pixels
line at the border where Taskbar supposed to be. Despairingly pulled it
by mouse -- and WOW!! It was it -- my long-expected Taskbar!

Grab that left hand divider and ram that sucker right into the Start
button. If you go fast enough, it doesn't have time to stop.... :-)
I've had experience!
