Default No Volume Control, Sound Card in Use, No Sound except for CD

Hi,

This problem is driving my crazy. I have no volume
control on my tray. However volume control is checked in
windows setup. When I try to play something on realplayer
it says soundcard in use. The sound card works because
the only sound I get is when I play a CD (probably via the
cable from cd to soundcard). When I try to play an mp3,
no sound. The sound driver is installed properly in the
device manager and there are no device conflicts. The
interesting thing is when i go into control panel, then
multimedia, the audio tab is completely grayed out. I
have already tried uninstalling and re-installing driver
and sound card.

Any help will be appreciated and if you provide the fix I
will send you a giant bag of peanut M&Ms.

Thanks
Ed
