Default Red-X marked items in Device Manager

Hello,

My query in brief:

When viewed in Safe mode Device Manager shows two
identical items against which are a red "X".
Will it be safe to "Remove" them?

Verbose:

When viewed in Safe mode Device Manager_ shows two
identical items against which are a red "X".
Will it be safe to "Remove" them_?

Under the item: "Universal Serial Bus controllers" the
following 8 items are listed:
"BT Voyager ADSL Modem Loader",
"Generic USB Hub",
"Generic USB Hub",
"Intel 82801AA USB Universal Host Controller",
"[red X] Unknown Device",
"[red X] Unknown Device",
"USB Mass Storage",
"USB Root Hub".

When examined in normal mode "Device Manager" does
not show any red "X" marked items.
When one expands (with Windows in normal mode) the
item: "Universal Serial Bus controllers" it lists under
it the following 3 items:
"Generic USB Hub",
"Intel 82801AA USB Universal Host Controller",
"USB Root Hub".

The following are the USB devices for the System:
"Freecom Classic ext hard drive",
"USB Hub",
(Connected to the USB hub
"Visioneer Scanner",
"BT Voyager USB ADSL modem",
"Fuji Film digital camera". (Normally however it's usb
lead is not connected to anything, until the camera is
being used to upload its images.)

Can I remove the two red "X" Device Manag_er items, that
are only shown like that while viewed in Safe mode?

Regards,

I have to agree with Bear on this one: "If it ain't broke....."
Most likely removing the two unknown devices showing in Safe Mode will not hurt
anything, but why take the chance if all is working as it should? It is quite
possible that the unknown devices may be related to the unconnected camera, and
would become known devices when it is connected.....causing the unknown devices to
return later anyway. Before doing anything, I would have a close look at the Enum
key in the Registry, as those unknown devices may appear there with more info.
