That may not give you the correct info if you have a router with a firewall

www.whatismyip.com is the better way.

Remember that sf is behind a router and if it is assigning the IP's per =
machine, then IIRC only the one assigned by the router will be seen =
using winipcfg. Don't have a 98 machine on at the moment to check.

Correct, in addition to the default gateway(and DNS and DHCP servers if
"more info" is clicked).

Hi TIA,

If your adapter is permenantly connected to your
ISP I have a solution for you, if not I still have a
suggestion.

It could be that your IP address is still available
in your computer's memory, if so click on the START button
located on the tool bar. Once you've done so, select
the 'RUN' option. TYPE: winipcfg, which should bring up
another window with the information you're looking for.
Make sure you're not using the PPP adapter option(click
the scroll button and choose your options to find out what
you're looking for). If it isn't displaying the
information you're looking for, click the "Renew All"
button and that should hopefully fix what ails you. If
that has failed you, call your local ISP and ask them to
guide you through the steps necessary for you to be
empowered to find those pesky numbers.

As for practicing safe eating... :P

Neither of which were mentioned, and were therefore not assumed present.

www.whatismyip.com is the better way.

It is an alternative, as is http://checkip.dyndns.org/

Whether it is better or not is a matter of personal opinion.

Some people will have an aversion to disclosing such information
to a relatively unknown and rather anonymous web site.

Any web site you visit is able to determine your IP address.
Otherwise it can't send you pages. And what do you mean by
a "rather anonymous" web site? You know (or can find out)
as much about it as most other sites. If you're a typical
surfer, you're going to visit a lot of "relatively unknown"
sites.

True. I was trying to indicate that some people would just as soon
not contact sites they know little or nothing about.

And what do you mean by

That does you no good if the site is a rogue.

If you're a typical surfer, you're going to visit a lot
of "relatively unknown" sites.

I am not typical.
