Default WINDOWS 98se PROBLEM DESPERATE!!

Hello and thank you for taking time to read this.

I'll be as brief as possible. I was given a Dell Inspiration 3500 as
follows:

MODEL#: TS30t AND IS EQUIPED WITH: 5MB Hard Disk; 1.44MB Floppy Disk; does
not have a cd rom device; Power Supply Input; Line In - Microphone -
Headset Jacks; Xircomm 56K Internal Modem; 1 USB port; 1 Parralell Port; 1
Serial port; 1 External monitor Port; 1 Unknown port about 4.5 " long; 1
External Mouse / Keyboard Attachment Port.

AGAIN (FOR CLARIFICATION OF MY PROBLEM) THE LAPTOP HAS NO CD ROM DEVICE.

The Problem

The unit did at one time have Windows 98SE installed. I don't have the
operating system disks to re-install the operating system to the drive.

I was given this for an upcoming hospital stay for heart surgery. I want to
have a computer to make recuperation go a bit faster. I know for me, time
really does fly when on the computer whatever you're doing (unless it may be
work related- then just the opposite!.

If anyone has any idea for me to solve this problem so that I can get it up
and running? I know it won't be the greatest, but being retired and
disabled, I am happy with whatever God sends my way.

Sincerely,

Mr. Raymond A. Miller

Well what, exactly, is your problem?

Does the computer not boot? Does the computer give you any errors and if so, what does
the errir say?

You can get CD drives that connect via the parallel (printer) port
http://www.cwol.com/extcd.htm

However, 5Mb is not enough disk space to install Windows. Stick with DOS.

The unknown interface is for a docking station.

Start the computer, tap the F8 key until the startup menu appears
and select "Command Prompt". Then type "dir /s \win98*.cab"
and press "Enter". If the cab files are present, try running "setup.exe"
from the same directory.
