Default DAT Tape Drive HP C1533A in Windows'98 SE (PL)

Hello !
Anybody help me ?
Problem with installation DAT tape drive's HP C 1533A ( Gb) on Compaq (with
SCSI).
I dont see my DAT drive's in "My computer" (icon) and I cant use it - in
"Steering Panel"Device Manager in my opinion - all's its good : this device
its registered as "Other know devices""HP C1533A".
May be other driver I need ?
What doing ?

What do you mean 'cant use it'? What procedure are you using and what
happens when you try?

AFAIK you don't see tape drives in My Computer. What happens when you run
your backup program? Does it see a tape device for backing up?

Good morning Jeff !
I havent programs to backuping. I have instaled HP C1533A on Windows'98 a
few years ago (1999, 2000?) without problems. Then using my tape device by
icon in "My computer" or "Windows Explorer" on right-click menu (Copy, Paste
and soon) - normally in Windows'98. Tape device was treated what removable
disk.

Now, past last instalation my tape device I'm using (only to diagnostic)
Windows aplication "HP Storage Works Library $ Tape Tools". After dignostic
- all's its OK.
---------------
Jeff - whats mean "AFAIK" ?
Best regards,
Marek W. Pilat

It is not normal for Windows 98 to treat a tape device as a removable disk.
If you had this with a previous system you must have had some additional
drivers that support this functionality. Tape file systems are not
supported natively in Windows 98.

Check with HP whether or not they can provide a file system driver. As far
as I know this would have to come from the device manufacturer.

Seagate made Drive Tape Access (DTA) which provided drive letter
functionality so you can use your tape more like a hard drive. It's novel,
but extremely slow at times, because tape access is sequential. You may
view a file in explorer and double-click it only to hear your tape drive
whirring for 3-5 minutes before it even finds the file!
