Default send to command not working & cannot open .bmp files

Hello,
I am encountering two apparently unrelated (or may be related) probems:

1. My "send to" sub menu command doesn't seem to work. The command does
show up but nothjing happens when I execute it. I checked and made sure the
target apploication for the send to command is indeed in the send to folder.

2. Whenever I click on a file with .bmp extension (bitmapfile) nothing
happens. I noticed that a momentary flickr in the background as if a window
was going to open but it failed to open. .jpg or .gif files open alright in
IE.

I have windows 98SE in my laptop. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks in
advance.

1. Is this the case for all options on the send-to menu, or only one? If
it's just one, what is it and what exactly have you placed in the send-to
folder?
2. What application do you want BMP files to open in? Once you have decided
this, look at "Associating file types with programs" in help for a step by
step description of the process.

Thanks for the reply. Yes it happens for all send to options. I have tried
files with
various extension and tried to send it to various applications but nothing
happens.
even though those files can be opened with those applications by directly
clicking
on the files. Seems like "send to" feature is disabled even though it shows
up in the
context menu. As for the ".bmp" file currently no application is associated
with it
in the file type list under "folder options". But I was expecting that the
"open with"
dialog box would have opened up, instead of no action. For example I
created a
new file type just for testing and clicked on it and the "open with" dialog
box did
pop up. So I am not sure why it doesn't happen for ".bmp" extension. Curiously
file typelisting does not have entry for .jpg or .gif files but these files
open up with
IE (as expected) when clicked.

Looking forward to further help. Thanks in advance

You can double-ccheck that you are using the correct procedure for creating
new items by looking at the description he
http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=141017
How to Add Items to the "Send To" List

You can confirm you are using the correct folder location by checking that
changes you make appear in the right-click menu under Send to. You should
also test by creating a send-to shortcut to another folder on the drive and
see if you can use send to to move a file to that other folder.

To associate Explorer with BMP files, select a sample bmp file in an
explorer window and press and hold Shift while you right-click it and choose
Open with. Then check the Always use ... option and select IE.

Tweakui installs an udated version of Send to. If you have Tweakui
installed, try re-installing it. Also, see the "Send to X" patch/fix at:

I did press and hold Shift while right-clicking a sample bmp file and choose
"Open with". Nothing happened except the desktop refreshed. I guess this is
another symptom of the same problem. I also tried to "send to" a file to
another
folder. That seemed to work OK. Its only that I cannot send to an application
it seems. I had created the send to links properly as suggsted. All were
working before. Its just recently these problems cropped up. I don;t have
tweakui installed.
But I did install some other software and also made some changes in
registry. I am
not sure if these problems are correlated with any changes I made. There is
no way for me to trace everything I did. All else are working fine.

Thanks again for the suggestions.

What happened when you applied the 'send-to X' patch/fix I suggested from
the aumha site?
