An unexpected "System Settings Change"
I experienced an unexpected "System Settings Change" messagebox on
1/11/2005, 1:55pm, while Browsing: http://forum.digital-digest.com/arch...c/36229-1.html I was reading thread -- "Another freeze post ;(" Messagebox Title: "System Settings Change" You must restart your computer before the new settings will take effect. Do you want to restart your computer now? Yes/No Is there anything that I can do to find out what happened? Any other recommendations? I am using Win98 SE. I will appreciate any information. Stan Hilliard I have not shut down my computer yet. How can I determine what changes would be made to the computer's system settings upon reboot? No guarantees . . . but 1. You can Ctl Alt Del to be sure you recognize all the apps currently loaded. 2. MSINFO32 lets you see all DLLs and other system files currently loaded. 3. You can check MSCONFIG / Startup to see if you think any suspicious item has been added. 4. Look at and empty c:\windows\temp\*.* and c:\temp\*.* default temporary storage for instal processes that require a reboot. (But malware might not necessarily use the default location.) -- Don Phillipson Carlsbad Springs (Ottawa, Canada) |

See if there is a wininit.ini file created, in the Windows folder. If found, open
with Notepad and post back with its contents pasted into your reply. -- Glen Ventura, MS MVP W95/98 Systems http://dts-l.org/goodpost.htm "Stan Hilliard" wrote in message ...
